Tulsa USGBC Oklahoma Chapter Meeting
Usually every second Wednesday of the Month
Watch for exact date and place in our monthly newsletter or announcements

The US Green Building Council's Tulsa Chapter will now be holding their monthly meetings along with Green Drinks. The gatherings are the same, but have a new element. If you are already a member of USGBC or are in the industry and would like to become more involved, this is a great way to meet all the right people. Other common Green Drinks attendees are members of Sustainable Green Country, the Sierra Club, Tulsa Young Professionals, Sustainable Tulsa, State Representatives, workin' folks, stay at home moms, farmers, local business owners....yep, pretty much anyone who wants to be a part of Tulsa's progressive population.

Mark your calendars for January 14th, 2010.
Green Drinks will be hosted at the Philbrook Museum of Art.  Guest Speaker Brian Franklin, owner of Double Shot Coffee Company will tell us about how he sources the coffee and what he does to support the growers, pickers, farmers, and communities that provides it.  Oh, and did I mention it's possibly the freshest coffee on planet?!?!  You won't want to miss this one.  Admission is free, but you'll need to swing by The Double Shot at 1730 South Boston to pick up your free pass.  They'll be available after December 3rd.

There will be a tour of a home under construction in Midwest City by

Joseph Spillman. For the exterior walls of his home Joseph has chosen

AAC (autoclaved aerated concrete) blocks.

The blocks are from SafeCrete - http://www.safecrete.com/aac/aac.cfm

According to SafeCrete their AAC products are sold as blocks, wall panels, floor & roof panels and several other configurations.

The advantages of AAC products are listed by SafeCrete as:

energy efficiency, fire resistance, sound attenuation, weather resistance, pest resistance, easy to use, long lasting, versatile and environmentally sound.

This is fascinating technology that has broad application.

After this week the exterior walls will (hopefully) be done so this is the only opportunity to see work in progress using the AAC block.

Hope to see you there.

Friday December 11 at 11:30AM.

BUILD-IT-GREEN LLC

First to Offer High Performance Sustainable Construction Resource Guide Serving Oklahomans and the Surrounding Region

Build-it-Green is essential reading for architects, builders, consultants, and anyone in the commercial construction community in Oklahoma
For the first time, green-building professionals serving Oklahomans will have a reliable resource guide for finding local product manufacturers and service providers.  In addition, organizations selling sustainable building products and services will now be able to reach a wide range of decision-makers in search of local green businesses throughout the state of Oklahoma as well as states like Texas, Kansas, Arkansas, and Missouri.

Build-it-Green is a handy resource for the busy building professional that may not have the time or staff to research a variety of green building categories.  Anyone interested in certifying their next project through the LEED Green Building Rating System, the National Association of Homebuilder’s Green Building Standard or Green Globes will want to have this quick-reference on their bookshelf and in their briefcase.  Build-it-Green is the brainchild of Lorrie A. Hoefling, President of Build-it-Green LLC and Chair of the U.S. Green Building Council’s Oklahoma Chapter.  “This definitive resource guide will cover everything under the sun to include categories such as roofing, windows, insulation, mechanical systems, flooring, paints and coatings, plumbing, lighting, electrical as well as construction and demolition waste options for Oklahomans,” says Hoefling.

A portion of the profits from every ad placed in Build-it-Green will be donated to the U.S. Green Building Council, a non-profit 501(c)(3) to support their social and environmental service, and educational programs. The guide will be distributed throughout the region via green building conferences, educational workshops, seminars, and community organizations dedicated to fundamentally rethinking the role of the building delivery process.  Individual listings, ¼, ½ and full page ads are available and start as low as $200. and include a presence on the web.
